INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Jurisdiction and Programs:  The Richmond Electricians’ Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee administers apprenticeship and training programs for the local electrical construction industry, specifically to members and contractors signatory to IBEW Local 666.  Covered classifications include Inside Wireman Apprentice and Construction Wireman.  There are also various Journeyman upgrade and Pre-Apprenticeship programs offered.  The sponsoring organizations of the Richmond Electricians’ Joint Apprenticeship Training Trust Committee are the IBEW Local 666 and the Atlantic Coast Chapter, NECA.  The JATC instructor position is NOT an IBEW nor a NECA position.  All communications, actions and decisions involve both parties equally and must be administered in a non-biased manner.

The Position:  Richmond Electricians’ JATC instructors are the key to future success in the electrical construction industry.  All full-time and part-time employees of the Richmond Electricians’ Joint Apprenticeship Committee are considered At-Will employees. At-will employment doctrine states: “An employer can hire and fire any person they wish, for any reason or for no reason. Likewise, an employee can accept or quit any job at any time, for any reason or for no reason.”  Employees must sign an Employment At-Will Statement and a Confidentiality Agreement.  The Training Director has the authority to hire and fire employees.

Instructors will use the electrical training ALLIANCE Curriculum as the basis of their teaching but may enhance the curriculum with various training and visual aids from their own experiences.  In this position you will be responsible for providing and sustaining an effective learning environment for every student through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation and feedback on student progress, and support of academic success for all students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid State of Virginia Journeyman’s or Master’s Electrical License.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to mold inexperienced students into qualified, well-trained, skilled craftsmen.
  • Proficient computer skills including online navigation, data entry and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Extensive knowledge of the electrical training ALLIANCE curriculum and the Learning Management System.
  • Have a positive attitude towards both the IBEW and NECA

Compensation:  This is a full-time salaried position and includes whole-family healthcare and retirement packages.  The annual salary is to be determined according to qualifications.  The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, work shifts may vary as needed.  Candidates must be willing to work evenings and some Saturdays.
